Dickie Dee Athens: Not Another ice cream parlor

I’m always up for trying new ice cream shops in Athens. So, I was very excited to spot Dickie Dee when it opened last year. Did I mention that it’s located very close to my office? What sets it apart from other ice cream parlors in Athens is that it offers soft-serve ice cream. It is inspired by the namesake Canadian company which operated until 2002. Dickie Dee menu Dickie Dee started with 4 ice cream flavors:  fior di latte, pistachio, rosewater, dark vegan chocolate. This year they added salted caramel, vegan strawberry, and mango cream. You have many options…

Spitjack Rotisserie, Athens

A few years ago, I didn’t even know where Skoufou street is. But new restaurants (small but trendy) started popping up there. The latest addition (and current favorite) is Spitjack. As with most of my discoveries, I found about Spitjack through social media and quickly added it on my “to visit” list. The food Spitjack is a rotisserie restaurant. It offers juicy meats roasted on the spit. One of the things I love in this restaurant is its minimal menu: 4 types of meat (duck, chicken, pork, beef), 4 sauces, 4 sides, 4 salads. On the photo above you can see…

Ergon House: exploring Athens’ first foodie hotel

Many times, I’m called to recommend a good Greek cuisine restaurant in Athens. But there’s a problem. I don’t frequent many Greek cuisine restaurants and taverns in Athens. I haven’t dined in a tavern in Plaka (Athens’ most touristy area) for more than 15 years! For the last 3+ years, I finally have a place to recommend with I love a lot. And it recently got bigger and better. I present you, Ergon House Athens. Ergon Foods History Ergon Foods started off as a deli. They collect products from Greek artisans and sell them in their stores in Greece and…

48 Urban Garden

There hasn’t been a restaurant that I wanted to visit that much as 48 Urban Garden. You see for almost 8 years I worked around the corner from the restaurant. Back then it had a different concept. It was an haute cuisine restaurant like the ones on Chef’s Table. LOVE the series by the way! It was out of my budget and I couldn’t find any “volunteers” to visit with me. So, I gave up. The interiors In 2014, the restaurant reopened under different management. And a different concept. It opened to the garden (especially in summertime) and got an…

Where to eat in Nicosia, Cyprus

After laying out the best that Nicosia has for you to explore, let’s get on with the food options, shall we? Before getting on with my recommendations, I must write a disclaimer. You won’t find traditional Cypriot cuisine on the list. Sure, one of them (Kath’odon) has more traditional dishes. The other ones are what one would call fusion and modern! Related: The essential guide to Nicosia Let’s start with the restaurants in Nicosia located inside the walls. D.O.T. restaurant Located near Famagusta Gate, this DOT restaurant is ideal for brunch and coffee. It’s very bright and decorated with antiques…

June in Athens diary

Happy July! June passed by and I did so many things! Checked out new (for me) places in Athens, attended events and traveled to Syros! Since I’m really behind my posting (I have a backlog of photos and things to write about since September 2017!) I decided to introduce a monthly or bi-monthly diary style post, where I’ll go over my whereabouts during that month (or months). You can always follow me on Instagram to keep up to date with the beautiful places I visit! Restaurants & Cafes I visited This month I revisited a favorite restaurant of mine: To Mavro Provato…

Zurbaran restaurant, Athens

Back in June my husband and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary. For the occasion, we went for lunch at Zurbaran restaurant in Kolonaki. It has been the talk of the town lately and I was keen on visiting. We went for a late lunch and it was the best time to visit, as the restaurant (bar from the tables on the street) was very quiet. We got a table on the patio (definitely the best place to sit) and both ordered burgers. What can I say? When there is a burger on the menu it always lures me in! We…
