Queen Bee Athens

I’m a little late to reviewing Queen Bee Athens since it’s open for almost 2 years. It took me 3 visits to finally get some good photos to go with my review. Queen Bee is a small corner bistro in Kolonaki. It’s a popular brunch place and makes delicious croissants. The best I’ve eaten in Athens so far.  The baked goods in this restaurant are what sets it apart from other brunch places in Athens. The owners contacted renowned French baker Kamel Saci. He supervised the bread, croissants and all those goodies included in the menu.

Queen Bee menu

Let me give you an overview of the menu before getting into detail of what I’ve tried. As you can guess the croissants and baked goods are front and center on the menu. They are made from artisan flour and butter from Normandy. Yes, it sounds fancy, but they are delicious. There are a lot of options, from plain butter croissants to almond croissants to cinnamon buns. The croissant prices range from 2,5 to 3,9€ per piece. If you are into salty baked goods, there are options like quiche and spinach pie. Those are priced at around 4€.

Moving on down the menu there are dishes with eggs. This is a brunch focused bistro after all. There are classic dishes like scrambled eggs, omelet and two eggs any style. Dishes like eggs benedict and avocado toast with eggs are also on the list. The prices on the egg dishes range from 8,50€ to 13,50€.

If you are not into eggs, then there are hot and cold sandwiches as well as salads on the menu. Some of the sandwiches are salmon avocado, tuna, and veggie. In the hot sandwiches section, you will find a massive club sandwich as well as BLT. Their prices range from 7,10€ to 17,50€. There are 20 add-ons that you can choose for your egg dishes and salad. Their prices range from 3€ (for prosciutto di Parma) to 7,50€ (for truffle flakes).

A selection of cakes and pancakes round up the brunch menu. Their prices range from 6€ approx. for the cakes to 11,50€ for the pancakes (with an extra charge for add-ons). Drink wise there is coffee of course, as well as other hot and cold beverages.

My experience

So, after this massive menu presentation let me tell you what I’ve tried. My first visit to Queen Bee Athens was for an afternoon coffee, so I got a double-baked almond croissant and a beignet. There started my love for the said croissant. The second time around I got the Club Sandwich with fries. It’s a massive one as it contains slow-cooked turkey breast, prosciutto, scrambled eggs, tomato, and guacamole. I was very full after this but still got some double backed chocolate croissant after that. It was very tasty but still doesn’t beat the almond one for me. During my latest visit, I got the Eggs Benedict and my husband got the Avocado Toast with a sunny side up eggs. Followed by double-baked almond croissant for me and a cinnamon bun for him. I tried my first ever matcha latte with almond milk and vanilla flavored honey. Felt very millennial but will stick to plain tea for the future! I also had my eye on this chocolate covered croissant that I took a photo of, but it wasn’t available by the time I ordered. Still, I want to return one day and get it!

Overview

You will find Queen Bee Athens in the corner of Patriarchou Ioakeim and Ploutarchou streets. It’s a small bistro, with indoor and outdoor seating. Booking is available for parties of 7 people onwards. For the rest of us, it operates on a first come first serve basis. During the weekends it gets busy, so either come early (it opens from 7.30 am) or be prepared to wait for a table. The service is top-notch even during those hectic days. The staff is very helpful and keen on answering your questions. Overall it’s a place I definitely recommend for brunch, lunch or even picking up some croissant! You can find more information on their Facebook page.
