Bon Bon Fait Maison Review

After I finished my last dessert challenge I was at a loss for a foodie project. So it dawned on me: I would try (almost) every dessert at Bon Bon Fait Maison. And then I’ll write a review. Why Bon Bon you might ask? Its curated selection of items, and creative menu make it the perfect spot to indulge in a little luxury. On top of that it is very close to my work. I always resort there for a post-lunch dessert! A little back story… I discovered Bon Bon in a magazine some 4-5 years ago. I read…

Hasika Rethymno

If you’ve been following me for a while you’ve noticed that I haven’t reviewed a restaurant in years. I plan to resume writing such reviews. What I’m changing this time is that I’m going to write about restaurants that I keep returning to. Hasika Rethymno is a restaurant that we visited for the first time back in 2019. We return to this place every time we visit the city, which is twice a year. Hasika’s tagline is “Greece in bites”. Their menu doesn’t have the typical form of salads- appetizers-main courses. It is divided by ingredients: vegetables/ fish/ meat. In…

10 Ice Cream Shops in Athens rated!

Time for yet another dessert trial! When I finished up the croissant project I had already decided that my next project would be ice cream. I’ll start off by saying that ice cream is harder to “judge” than the other desserts. I searched for some criteria and came up with the following:  Criteria No use of artificial flavors/colors. The color/flavor of the ice cream should correspond to its content.  Crumbly and/or fluffy ice cream indicates a high amount of air. It may be considered a sign of cheap, lower-quality ice cream.  Quality ice cream should generally be smooth and soft. …

Where to find the best croissants in Athens

After completing my project of finding Athens’ best macarons I embarked on a new one. This time I want to discover the best croissants in Athens . This project was more difficult because I find it more challenging to rate a croissant. Still I looked for some criteria and guidance. The first one came from tips of a French pastry chef. The second was a handy checklist by A Hedgehog in the Kitchen. I took both into account when giving my overall scores. To sum it up in the words of Duchêne: “A perfect croissant, it’s a very crispy croissant…

15 Places for macarons in Athens

Back in September 2021, I saw a lot of sponsored Instagram posts about macarons. So I decided to embark on a project: to discover the best macarons in Athens. I know “best” is a word with a heavy meaning. But it makes for a catchy blog title isn’t it?! A blogger has to do what a blogger has to do! Without further ado let’s start our review, shall we? When I embarked on this project, I wanted a way to judge those macarons. I’m in no capacity a professional food critic, but I love desserts. To make this project better…

Nolan Restaurant Athens

Nolan is a minimal restaurant included in Michelin’s Bib Gourmand guide. This guide includes little restaurants selected by Michelin guide inspectors for their very good value for money. Nolan’s chef Sotiris Kontizas was a judge in Greek Master Chef recently. This appearance boosted the restaurant’s recognition. The restaurant is located near Syntagma square. It’s opposite a favorite chocolate place of mine. I wanted to visit for years, and only recently took the plunge. Nolan menu Nolan has a minimal menu with 18 dishes and 3 sides. When we arrived at the restaurant the waitress informed us that all the dishes…

Queen Bee Athens

I’m a little late to reviewing Queen Bee Athens since it’s open for almost 2 years. It took me 3 visits to finally get some good photos to go with my review. Queen Bee is a small corner bistro in Kolonaki. It’s a popular brunch place and makes delicious croissants. The best I’ve eaten in Athens so far.  The baked goods in this restaurant are what sets it apart from other brunch places in Athens. The owners contacted renowned French baker Kamel Saci. He supervised the bread, croissants and all those goodies included in the menu. Queen Bee menu Let…
