If you’ve been following me for a while you’ve noticed that I haven’t reviewed a restaurant in years. I plan to resume writing such reviews. What I’m changing this time is that I’m going to write about restaurants that I keep returning to. Hasika Rethymno is a restaurant that we visited for the first time back in 2019. We return to this place every time we visit the city, which is twice a year.

Hasika’s tagline is “Greece in bites”. Their menu doesn’t have the typical form of salads- appetizers-main courses. It is divided by ingredients: vegetables/ fish/ meat. In each category the first dishes on the list are appetizers. As you go down the list there are the main dishes.

Over the years I’ve tried many dishes but last summer I found my absolute favorite: octopus moussaka. It sounds like a strange combination of octopus with eggplant (cream). Even so, it was absolutely delicious. It had potato chips on top and I was sold.

Now lets talk about the wine list. When I’m visiting Crete, I always go for local wines. In Hasika I discovered 2 Faraggia white wine by Miliarakis Winery. The varieties used for this wine are Thrapsathiri and Spinas Muscat. It is my favorite wine currently. All in all, Hasika is a great place to enjoy a delicious meal.

Practical information: Hasika Rethymno is located on 15, Agias Varvaras street. We usually don’t book a table and always find a place. If you want to book though you can call at 2831021014. You can find more information (and photos) on the restaurant on their Facebook page.
