Waffle House and Bufala Gelato Vouliagmeni

Now that summer is (finally) here, I’ve traded hot chocolate and tea for ice cream and waffles. So, it’s time for another “this or that post” featuring Waffle House and Buffala Gelato in Vouliagmeni! Waffle House Vouliagmeni Let’s start with the older establishment in the neighborhood! Waffle House opened in Naxos back in 1996 and then opened in Vouliagmeni in 2006. It’s always a difficult task to secure a table especially during the weekends, but its worth it! I love its waffles as they are thinner than the classic Belgian ones. The ice cream selection in Waffle House Vouliagmeni is…

Peskesi restaurant, Heraklion

Peskesi restaurant Heraklion is undoubtfully the city’s it-place. I visited it on my mother-in-law recommendation but it keeps popping up everywhere. I read about it on Aegean airlines magazine, I’ve seen it on my Facebook and Instagram feeds. But popularity isn’t the reason why you should visit it. You should visit it, because it’s a very good restaurant! About Peskesi restaurant   Peskesi focuses on the farm-to-table philosophy. The family behind Peskesi owns a farm in the area of Hersonissos. There they cultivate vegetables and raise free range animals. That means that the vegetables and eggs used in dishes come from…

Athens Street Food Festival 2017 review

Over 3 weekends in May, the Athens Street Food Festival took place. The location was an old trolley depot in Ermou Street (corner with Pireos street). Last year it took place over only one weekend and I didn’t have the time to peruse it properly. I did pop on to try a specific dessert though: the so-called chimney dessert that I had eaten years ago in Budapest. This year though, I fared much better. I visited on two subsequent Sundays. I tried out from 3 different stalls and I am in a better position to review this event. I do…

Where to eat in Rome

It’s no secret that pizza is my favorite food ever so I was very excited to visit Rome last month! The best pizza in town still escapes me, but I have plenty of suggestions on where to eat in Rome (especially pasta) for you! So let’s move on! 1) Osteria dell Angelo In just a 10′ walk from the Vatican museums in the Prati neighborhood of Rome, you’ll find Osteria dell Angelo. It’s a place where you’ll come across a lot of locals, rugby decoration and delicious food. I tried the carbonara which was delicious but also eyed some interesting steaks….

Tea or Chocolate: Reviewing two specialty shops in Athens

If you’re a regular reader you probably know that I don’t drink coffee. I love cute cafes but always opt for tea or chocolate (and sometimes for a cocktail). Admittedly it’s easier to find a nice tea than chocolate, as there are various brands of tea bags, but in both cases if you are looking for something exceptional then you have to visit a specialty shops. That’s where To Tsai (Το Τσάι, translates to Tea) and Sokolata (Σοκολάτα, translates to chocolate) come to play. So let’s have a look! To Tsai To Tsai is located in a tiny street parallel…

Brunch at Estrella Athens

Update 2023: This location of Estrella is now closed. You can find Estrella in Chalandri and Flisvos Marina Estrella is a restaurant that originates from Thessaloniki and made it recently to Romvis street Athens. I read all about the restaurant and its famous bougatsan last year in Aegean Airlines magazine. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to visit their  store in Thessaloniki, as my itinerary got busy last year, so I was more than happy to find out that a franchise store opened in Athens a few months back. Estrella’s tagline is “World Street Food” but it would as well be “The…

Kritamon wine bar/restaurant, Chania

Kritamon restaurant is located in Chania’s old town. It took its name from a plant that grows in the sand and is used in salads. It is a wine bar/ restaurant with an adjacent organic store, with clean and minimal design. To be honest, I loved the restaurant’s design as we passed by. Therefore I decided to check out their menu as well. We already had lunch that day, so we made a mental note and decided to return the next one. And that’s what we did! On our last day in Chania, after walking one last time around the…
