The essential guide to Santorini

Have you ever dreamed of living in a postcard? Well, visiting Santorini will make you feel just like that! It’s no wonder that Santorini is the most coveted Greek island thanks to  its stunning view, unique architecture and well its volcanic past. This is probably one of the few islands that beaches aren’t a priority. Not that they are not clean, but they have black sand due to the volcanic minerals. The picturesque village of Oia and the “capital” of the island Fira with their whitewashed buildings and beautiful view over the sea (where once the volcano crater used to be) make up for the no t…

Tunisia

Tunisia is the only African country I’ve visited and let’s say the most “exotic” one (although Istanbul can also be classified as “exotic”). My visit took place back in 2007 and although it was winter and also rainy (we were unlucky enough ti coincide with the few rain days that Tunisia gets within the year), it was a nice experience and we got to see the different aspects of this country. First of all: the desert! If you travel near the south borders of Tunisia you reach the region of Sahara dessert. For the first time in my life I…

Walking Around Heraklion

It started off as an outfit post, but there were so many interesting places to shoot in Herakleion, so it kind of ended an outfit/travel post to compliment the previous posts about Herakleion here and here. The walk started from Chandakos street and more specifically from Pepe Nero restaurant, which I managed to visit this time and I will feature in the blog shortly! Herakleion’s new Library, located on “The Lions” square was our next stop. Maybe, the buildings pink-ish color played a role in choosing it as a photo background…just saying! The Venetian Loggia which now houses the City Hall…

The one time I celebrated Queen’s Day in Amsterdam

I happened to visit Amsterdam in 2008 while the Queen’s Day (now King’s Day since King Willem-Alexander was crowned last year) and that was an experience. Although on the actual day we visited the Museums (they were open) and strolled around the city, we made sure to blend in with the crowd. You see on that day, everyone in Amsterdam wears orange so as to show their pride for the Dutch Royal Family, the House of Orange Nassau. As you will see I chose a pair of huge orange sunglasses (that I keep to this day) and an orange flower garland…

A quick guide to Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Do you have a travel “bucket” list? You know, the kind of list where you mentally write down the places you want to visit in your life. I don’t exactly have such a list, but there are a few places that I’d love to visit like Japan and California. One thing’s for sure: the Canary Islands weren’t on this list. But when the opportunity arose to visit one of them I hopped on board. I’m exaggerating a bit here, as I only visited one island, that being Lanzarote. It isn’t the most renowned island of the bunch such as Tenerife…

An essential guide to Paris

First time I visited Paris was back in 1993. I was hardly 9 and was hyped about visiting Paris. We arrived by train (from Luxembourg) in Gare de l’Est and honestly as the train entered Paris – from a not-so-flattering angle and neighborhood – I was thinking that maybe the hype was just, you know, hype…My opinion though quickly changed after we took the metro to Passy (near Trocadero), were our hotel was located. The rest is history and Paris is my favorite city (*like ever*) despite the fact that I’ve visited London more times. It has an allure, openness,…

Guildford, Surrey

It seems that I have an unwritten pact with myself to visit as many British towns and villages as possible. It all started actually back in 2005 when I set my foot in Lancaster for my masters degree. Since then I’ve visited so many places in the UK, south, north, middle…you name it! Most of my travel posts are on my old blog, but slowly I’ll get them transferred to this one. Anyways…one of the latest additions on the list is Guildford in Surrey, which I visited in November during my latest trip in the country. On the day we…
