3 restaurants in NYC worth visiting

New York City is one of the few cities, where I had a problem finding a decent restaurant. Of course that was why I was looking in all the wrong places like Times Square and Pier 17. The good thing was, that the extremely bubbly tour guide on the doubledecker bus to Brooklyn gave us the best tip: head to Hell’s Kitchen. Long story short I never made it to Hell’s Kitchen, but I found out Restaurant Row (aka W46th street) with lots of options that never disappoint (tried 2 different restaurants, both very good). During my last visit in…

A quick guide to Brighton

Today’s post is a “break” from the previous food related ones! It’s also a break from featuring places and cities in North America (can’t help it since I’m stationed in Boston). It is about a city that although I’ve visited only once, is a favorite of mine! Read on to see my favorite spots and must-dos in Brighton! Visiting Brighton was on my list for a long time! Every time I visited my friends in London and proposed a trip to Brighton they said that they’ve been there and weren’t impressed! I mean how that was even possible?!? Why so much fuss about…

Grandma’s Baklava Recipe

Back in November I baked baklava for the first time. I was anxious about the outcome because not only it was my first attempt, but also I’m not really good with making syrup (an essential part of the baklava). Nevertheless I was eager to give it a try and take it along to my friends in Montreal. You see they had tasted my grandmother’s baklava last summer and loved it! This weekend I baked another baklava and was definitely more confident than the first time. I came to realize that there’s no big deal after all, because there is no…

Andy Warhol: The Illustrator

We all know Andy Warhol as the leader of the American Pop Art Movement, but did you know that he started off as an illustrator working mainly with fashion magazines? No? Me neither! That’s why I was more than happy to stumble upon an exhibition of his illustrations in Montreal’s Museum of Fine Arts back in November. On display there are  fifty posters and almost a thousand illustrations found in 400 magazines that belong to the collection of Paul Maréchal. Although Warhol sifted from illustration to painting, he still got commissions for advertisements and magazines. Take the Absolut Vodka bottle for…

3 Days in New York City

Last week I showed you some snippets from New York City and mainly the festive decorations, so now it’s time for a proper photo diary about the places I (re)visited and the restaurants that I dined! Oh yes, food is important for me in NYC because during my first visit I had a hard time finding decent (meaning non fast food) places to eat, except for the ones that my friends had recommended! But this time I was prepared and I had a few favorite from the first time! So brace yourselves and hop on board because this is going to…

Festive New York City

Hello and Happy New Year! Wishing you all the best for 2015! If you follow me on Instagram you probably saw that I spent the last few days of 2014 in New York City (although I rang the New Year back in Boston)! It was not my first time in the city, but seeing it all lit up and decorated was a unique experience! Of course I have many photos and tips to share from my visit, but this post is about the decorations that I liked the most: – the windows of Bergdorf Goodman in 5th avenue inspired by…

DIY statement Necklace with double braid

The Idea A statement necklace is my favorite accessory, but if you’re a regular reader, you already know that! Also it’s a perfect way to elevate the simplest shirt of dress! An ideal add on for Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties I dare say! Making a statement necklace that would include embroidery floss and some kind of (faux) bling has been in my mind for a long time. Specifically since I bought a statement necklace last year. It also helped that I found a similar DIY in Honestly WTF. But you see I aimed for a much more bolder…
