Little Kook cafe, Athens

Little Kook is a quirky café in Athens that aims to transport you in a fairytale world. It opened its doors back in December and quickly created buzz thanks to its unique interiors (which changes periodically by the way). Such a place (especially as it serves desserts, hot chocolate and the lot) could not possibly fall off my radar, so I scheduled a visit a few weeks ago! Little Kook is located in a quiet street in Psyrri neighborhood in downtown Athens. Two playing cards soldiers frame the facade of the building but the real surprise is a dragon sitting…

(Epic) Brunch at New York Sandwiches

I came across New York Sandwiches as I was leaving work one day. You see they recently opened a new branch close to Syntagma square in downtown Athens. New York Sandwiches serve burgers and bagels during the week and brunch on weekends! The place is minimal in white, beige and blue tones. One of the walls features a drawing of Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York, while the other features, cozy little booths ideal for couples! And now I’m coming to the part explaining why brunch at New York Sandiches was epic. Let me start off by saying…

Brunch at Monsieur Barbu, Athens

I’ll use any excuse to visit a new restaurant and brunch is one of them! A few weeks before Christmas on a chilly Saturday morning I had brunch at Monsieur Barbu in the new “it” (thanks to Airbnb) neighborhood of Athens, Koukaki. Monsieur Barbu is an all day bar restaurant which serves brunch during the weekends. Its location is very ideal as it is close to Syggrou-Fix metro, tram and bus station. The menu has short selection of burgers, sandwiches and egg dishes followed by desserts: pancakes, lemon pie, chocolate caramel tart. I should add that the desserts are developed by Greek…

Brunch at Noel the Holiday Bar, Athens

Welcome to a place where it’s Christmas every day! Located in an arcade in downtown Athens, Noel’s decoration is based on rich burgundy and green colors. I came across this café/bar in the summer, but I decided to visit a little bit later when the weather would be colder and I admit that my decision was right for two reasons: a) indeed Noel exudes warmth and coziness ideal for the colder months b) from early fall Noel introduced a brunch menu (available everyday) as I was tipped off by Markella from Do you Speak Gossip. The brunch menu includes: eggs Benedict,…

Brunch in Mama Roux, Athens

Brunch is a concept that I fully immersed myself in last year while living in Boston. I remember being amazed at the queues I’ve encountered outside Sound Bites in Somerville, but when I did visit I understood that they wait was totally worth it. I visited on a week day though so I didn’t encounter any queues! Athens is slowly catching up on the brunch trend and there are many places in the city where you brunch is involved (eggs involved) but for me, there was one restaurant I absolutely wanted to visit: Mama Roux. Mama Roux opened its doors 4…

Foodie guide to Thessaloniki

Last month, I spent 4 days in Thessaloniki, which is the second largest city in Greece. Located on Thermaikos gulf, Thessaloniki is a city open to the sea, well-known for its relaxed culture, seaside promenade and delicious food. I have many photos from the city to share with you, as well as tips on things to do and see, but I decided to start with the fun part first: a foodie guide to the city, with all my suggestions on where to eat in Thessaloniki! B. (at the Byzantine museum) The Byzantine museum of Thessaloniki is probably the No.1 Museum…

Drive away to Malibu + dine at Geoffrey’s

“Hey hey, you know what to do Oh baby, drive away to Malibu” – Hole Driving away to Malibu would be a brilliant weekend idea…if only I lived in LA!! Still during our 3,5 days stay in LA back in March, my friends and I managed to spend an afternoon driving to Malibu, frolicking (well sort of) on Zuma beach and then dining at Geoffrey’s. Malibu is just a 30’ drive (with no traffic) from Santa Monica and about 60’ drive (with no traffic) from Los Angeles. Malibu stretches 34km along the Pacific Ocean and is “home” to many beaches including…

Alden & Harlow, Harvard Square

Alden & Harlow is probably one of my favorite restaurants around Boston. It is located on Brattle street just around the corner from Harvard Square! The first time I visited Alden & Harlow was last year for brunch! It took me a while to discover the restaurant, despite the fact that I frequented Harvard Square, since it is located below street level. I was a newbie in Boston, but I had read that it is an up and coming restaurant in town (by now it is a well established one), known for its American cuisine and locally sourced ingredients. I was charmed by the restaurant’s…

3 Restaurants in San Francisco worth visiting

My posts regarding my Californian road trip back in March wouldn’t be complete, without me blogging about food right? I do have a couple of suggestions and tips about Los Angeles, but dining out in San Francisco definitely stole my heart stomach! 1) Mijita Mijita is located in Ferry Building Marketplace and overlooks San Francisco’s Harbor. It’s a no fuss, colorful “gourmet taqueria”. It is  budget friendly too. My friends and I got sandwiches which are served on a toasted roll with tortilla chips. Each one of us got a different filling; mine had grilled chicken with achiote mayo, guacamole and…

3 restaurants in NYC worth visiting

New York City is one of the few cities, where I had a problem finding a decent restaurant. Of course that was why I was looking in all the wrong places like Times Square and Pier 17. The good thing was, that the extremely bubbly tour guide on the doubledecker bus to Brooklyn gave us the best tip: head to Hell’s Kitchen. Long story short I never made it to Hell’s Kitchen, but I found out Restaurant Row (aka W46th street) with lots of options that never disappoint (tried 2 different restaurants, both very good). During my last visit in…
