Where to eat in Rome

It’s no secret that pizza is my favorite food ever so I was very excited to visit Rome last month! The best pizza in town still escapes me, but I have plenty of suggestions on where to eat in Rome (especially pasta) for you! So let’s move on! 1) Osteria dell Angelo In just a 10′ walk from the Vatican museums in the Prati neighborhood of Rome, you’ll find Osteria dell Angelo. It’s a place where you’ll come across a lot of locals, rugby decoration and delicious food. I tried the carbonara which was delicious but also eyed some interesting steaks….

Tea or Chocolate: Reviewing two specialty shops in Athens

If you’re a regular reader you probably know that I don’t drink coffee. I love cute cafes but always opt for tea or chocolate (and sometimes for a cocktail). Admittedly it’s easier to find a nice tea than chocolate, as there are various brands of tea bags, but in both cases if you are looking for something exceptional then you have to visit a specialty shops. That’s where To Tsai (Το Τσάι, translates to Tea) and Sokolata (Σοκολάτα, translates to chocolate) come to play. So let’s have a look! To Tsai To Tsai is located in a tiny street parallel…

B Madame

Back in July my husband and I discovered a small patisserie/ice cream parlor in Kapnikareas street (off Ermou shopping street) called Balader. We loved getting ice cream from there a lot as we really liked the way that the ice cream was made. In September was informed that Balader would move in Kolonaki, but that move took longer than expected. After a lot of searching, we finally located it in Valaoritou street under a new name: B madame. Related: Summer in Athens The Place As we learned from co-owner Spiros Bakogiannis, the main reason behind the move was the space….

Ergon restaurant, Athens

Ergon restaurant has been on my radar since visiting Thessaloniki last year. On my first night there we planned on dining in their flagship store called Agora, but couldn’t find a table. Luckily they opened a new deli and restaurant in downtown Athens and back in December, on my nameday, I got to visit it! The Space Ergon restaurant is located on Mitropoleos street very close to Syntagma square. Upon entering the store you come across the deli (Ergon started off as a deli brand) with shelves full of various marmalades, spreads, condiments, candies and many more Greek products. Seating…

Brunch at Estrella Athens

Estrella is a restaurant that originates from Thessaloniki and made it recently to Athens. I read all about the restaurant and its famous bougatsan last year in Aegean Airlines magazine. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to visit their  store in Thessaloniki, as my itinerary got busy last year, so I was more than happy to find out that a franchise store opened in Athens a few months back. Estrella’s tagline is “World Street Food” but it would as well be “The Brunch Place”, as the menu is full of dishes like boiled eggs, omelets, pancakes and the lot. And of course,…

Lefkes restaurant, Galatsi

Let’s get into festive mood today! I’m reviewing Lefkes restaurant in Galatsi (a northern suburb of Athens), which goes all out during the holiday season! Just a disclaimer: those photos are from last year as I visited Lefkes just after Christmas and posting holiday photos in January didn’t sound that appropriate. Long story short, these photos waited patiently for December to come again, so that I could finally write this post! Lefkes restaurant is located in an old house, with a front yard with elm trees that actually gave the name to the restaurant. I’ve heard about this place so…

Kritamon wine bar/restaurant, Chania

Named after a plant that grows in the sand and is used in salads, Kritamon is located in Kondylaki street in Chania’s old town. It is a wine bar/ restaurant with an adjacent organic store, with clean and minimal design. To be honest, the design caught my attention as we passed by and prompted me to check out their menu as well. We already had lunch that day, so we made a mental note and decided to return the next one. And that’s what we did! On our last day in Chania, after walking one last time around the city,…

Babaji, Indian Restaurant, Athens

Indian cuisine lovers, there’s a restaurant in Athens you should visit! I was introduced to Babaji about six months ago on a lunch break with two colleagues. I’d already tried out another Indian restaurant a few blocks down and I was eager to explore this one too. I loved all of the dishes we tried out and especially the Chicken Kashmir (with litchi fruit, pictured above) and the Sweet Pulao (basmati rice with saffron, pictured below left). So I returned once more with my husband to try out more! Of course we ordered Chicken Kashmir once more as well as…

Fresh patisserie, Athens

Last week on my Saturday in Athens walk I mentioned Fresh pastry stores and particularly their Valaoritou branch and since it’s a pastry store/cafe that should be on your list if you visit Athens I came back with a full post! Fresh is a well known chain of chic pastry stores in Athens and suburbs. It’s well known for cakes, assorted pastries and dessert bowls. But the dessert options don’t end there! In these pastry stores you’ll also find macarons, cookies, chocolate and gluten free desserts. A few weeks before Christmas, Fresh opened a new branch in Valaoritou street in Kolonaki…

The Zillers roof garden, Athens

There’s a new roof garden in Athens that you should visit and it’s called The Zillers! The Zillers is a new boutique hotel that is opening pretty soon in the city center, whose roof garden features a very cozy all day cafe/restaurant. The latter is already in operation and quickly became the talk of the town! The Zillers is the latest of a long list of rooftop cafes, bars and restaurants that popped up in Athens city center in the latest 5 years. A for Athens was the first one located on Monastiraki square (which has a killer view, frequently…

Cookie Land, Athens

I discovered Cookie Land some years ago, when a colleague brought cookies from this patisserie for his birthday. I recently realized that they also have a store/cafe in downtown Athens really close to my office, so a “dessert date” with my friends was in order. Cookie Land has displays with the desserts and ice cream flavors so you can see what’s available. We were treated with a delicious butter cookie and then sat down to plot our order. One of my friends and I went for the rich chocolate cake (called sokolatopita, which literally translates to chocolate pie) topped with…
