Ergon restaurant has been on my radar since visiting Thessaloniki last year. On my first night there we planned on dining in their flagship store called Agora, but couldn’t find a table. Luckily they opened a new deli and restaurant in downtown Athens and back in December, on my nameday, I got to visit it!
Ergon restaurant is located on Mitropoleos street very close to Syntagma square. Upon entering the store you come across the deli (Ergon started off as a deli brand) with shelves full of various marmalades, spreads, condiments, candies and many more Greek products.
Seating area is available on the ground and first floors. It is minimally decorated, with blue walls and a few shelves on the walls showcasing their products. Ergon caters for large groups as well and is also family friendly.
Now let’s talk about the menu! I was amazed by how many appetizers (meze) where on offer. When going out for lunch or dinner I tend to avoid appetizers as I get stuffed very easily, but this time I made an exception. We got Gruyere from Naxos with paprika, in kataifi pastry, with honey and Aegina pistachios (pictured above), which was very delicious. I had eaten a similar dish in Leros years ago and wanted to try it out again. We also got Green Leaves salad with cranberries, goji berries and goat cheese from Grevena (also pictured above).
For main course my husband got Mushroom pilaf with mushrooms from Grevena and Pecorino from Mytilene and I got Pork chops marinated in grape syrup, smoked peppers and baby potatoes. The chops where amazing! They were covered with some short of homemade barbeque sauce which was delicious. The pilaf didn’t disappoint either. I love the fact that the dishes where not huge, because as I said I get full very easily!
Ergon restaurant is already on my revisit list and next time I’ll make space for the chocolate cheesecake with chestnut jam that I spotted on the menu!
Have you ever visited one of their restaurants?
