Little Kook is a themed cafe, changing styles and decoration approximately 3 times a year. The themes are Halloween, Christmas and Spring/Summer. Every year the themes vary, but one thing is for sure. As far as decorations go, Little Kook goes all out. Especially at Christmas time when Pittaki street leading to the cafe is full of lights.

It opened its doors in December 2015 and quickly became a social media hit thanks to its unique design. Such a place (especially as it serves desserts, hot chocolate and the lot) could not possibly fall off my radar, so I scheduled a visit in March 2016.

Most Instagrammable place in Athens?

Over the years Little Kook has featured various themes like Alice in Wonderland, Mary Poppins, Christmas lights (they go all out there) and Halloween decorations. When I first visited interior is also peculiar, with a multi mattress bed hanging from the ceiling (from the fairytale Princess and the pea) and a giant beanstalk ascending towards the ceiling (from the fairytale Jack and the Beanstalk). The waitresses were dressed in jewel colored dresses, white aprons and fascinators adding to the unique atmosphere of the place!

Now let’s talk about food! The menu is full of sweet options: cakes, cupcakes, crepes, hot chocolate, tea, and coffee sum up your options! Since 2016 I’ve visited Little Kook a couple of times. I’ve tried their cakes in the past and their lemon pie recently. The desserts are decadent and the portions (especially those of cakes) are more than generous. Looks aside, they are not my favorite desserts in the city. I prefer more refined ones in portions I can actually eat.

Little Kook Location and Overview

Little Kook is located in Karaiskaki street in the neighborhood of Psyrri in Athens. Since opening in 2015 it has expanded to more space on Pittaki street and even opened an ice cream parlor (where you can get ice cream to go).

It’s one of those places that I check out 2-3 times a year to take a photo of the new decorations and post them on Instagram. Yes, I’m being totally honest here. I still like to visit once in a while to try their desserts, but it’s not my first port of call.

Little Kook gets busy in the afternoons and weekends so having to wait in line to be seated is not a rarity. You can find more information about the café on their Facebook page.
