“Hey hey, you know what to do
Oh baby, drive away to Malibu” – Hole

Zuma Beach, Malibu

Driving away to Malibu would be a brilliant weekend idea…if only I lived in LA!! Still during our 3,5 days stay in LA back in March, my friends and I managed to spend an afternoon driving to Malibu, frolicking (well sort of) on Zuma beach and then dining at Geoffrey’s.

Malibu is just a 30’ drive (with no traffic) from Santa Monica and about 60’ drive (with no traffic) from Los Angeles. Malibu stretches 34km along the Pacific Ocean and is “home” to many beaches including Surfrider Beach, Zuma Beach, Malibu Beach, Topanga Beach, Point Dume Beach, County Line, and Dan Blocker Beach.

In my mind Malibu was a beach town, like Santa Monica or Venice, but it’s not. The houses are scattered on the hills and along the beach (in most places). We drove past restaurants (top-notch I should add) and open air malls and reached Zuma beach. The goal was simple: dip our toes in the ocean. Which was cold naturally…We also tried our luck at beach volley for the sole purpose to have some photographic documents 😛 Then we lounged a bit looking at the ocean and realizing that there’s nothing on the horizon and made plans for dinner!

Before going to California I had read about Geoffrey’s at Christine’s blog so I suggested it. We booked a table through Open Table (I love this app) and made our way to the restaurant! We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 main courses split among 4 persons. For the first time I tried coconut fried shrimp and I was mind blown! I’ve already researched recipes and want to try at home! The other dishes featured are: quinoa stuffed pepper and herb crusted salmon.

We dined while people (and view) watching and agreed that Geoffrey’s location reminds us of a cafe/restaurant in the southern suburbs of Athens. Well of course the Greek cafe doesn’t overlook an ocean though!!

We then made our way towards Los Angeles County Museum of Art…you know for the lamp sculpture.
